* Do you know what the Reverse DNS service is?

Suggested article: What is Reverse DNS?

Reverse DNS, or rDNS for short, typically, is included in the features of a managed DNS plan. Its purpose is actually the opposite of the Forward DNS. That means it maps IP addresses to hostnames. In contrast, the Forward DNS points the domain name to the corresponding IP address.

With Reverse DNS, you are able to verify the IP addresses and prove that they are related to a specific domain name.
It gives you the opportunity to create a Reverse DNS zone. There you are able to make PTR records that match the IP address (IPv4 or IPv6) and the accurate domain name.

Reverse DNS (rDNS) is important in some particular cases:

  • If you want the emails you send to your recipients to arrive successfully at their destination. In case you are not applying rDNS, they will probably take place in the spam folder.
  • In case you own an IP address network, you are probably going to need it to perform reverse lookups.
